wow DandyCandy, you dropped some serious information, i could not agree with you more. I would also like to note that from what i here in advertising, and from people around me is that something geared toward plus size is trying to sell being "fat". but that is not the case. i feel that is another ignorant thought. My opinion is that whereas plus sized advertising is not selling being "fat" it is just letting the plus size community know that yes you are not a size 4 or even 8 but there are still things you can do to make yourself attractive. You are so right when you talk about the larger woman trying to blend in and not having a positive attitude about herself. i feel that that would be another message that should get out. no one is telling you that being plus-sized is ok (although i am fine with myself, but for the others who arent) we are just trying to provide you with information and outlets until you get to your desired place in life. i think the word IGNORANCE is a big reason these magazines don't survive, ignorance from the advitesers who don't want to advertise with plus-magizines be cause of the size issue, and ignorance from whe women whe just can't get over it and accept that they are different. once they realize and accept that they are different, then maybe they will open up and accept the magazines. and maybe when the advtisers see more support from the curvy community and that we are actually buying these magazines then they will be less hesitant to support them also. as far as what is being advertised, i so agree with what you said on another post. i am a young girl, i don't want to only see formal wear, and old folks clothes. i am not old and don't want a closet full of elegant wear. why can't i find a pair of high heels thigh high boots to fit my thighs?
and as for the heavier man, i am really tired of that too. once again ignorance. it is ok for a man to be burlesque, but women have to be this tiny anorexic looking individual. why? are none of us larger sisters married? are we all sitting on the side lines being the but of jokes and praying and waiting for a man like most of us are depicted? i know i am not.

You ladies are amazing! I love your passin and the way you see the world around you. It's hard sometimes for us to accept that we are looked upon in this manner but the sooner we accept who we are the sooner we can get working on the "movement".

So PROUD to be with your girls on this one... I'm always down for a campaign...

Subscribe, Subscribe, Subscribe is what we need to do. Print magazines depend on subscriptions. Also it's important that when we go to Barnes & Noble, Borders, etc we request that they carry these magazine.

It's really up to us to support these magazines! I subscribed to Mode, BBW, Grace, and Belle and I spread the word to my fellow sisters who had no idea the magazines existed and I was very vocal with my local B&N about carrying the magazine.

It's so important that we not just talk about it but we show support. I personally would move the magazines in front of Cosmo and Vogue whenever I got the chance. Let's show Madison Avenue that we have a voice and that we are indeed the majority. Since these magazines folded I have been heartbroken. I don't buy Cosmo or any of the other magazines because they do contribute to poor self image by sending the message to young girls that we must see your ribs to be beautiful.

I do purchase Figure now and will be subscribing to it and Beautiful when it hits the stands.

How do we support the plus size vendors? That question is easy for me because I love being a plus size woman. I love the clothes, the fashion, the style and the beauty. Everything I wear screams out to the public and to the vendors. So when I get up in the morning and put on my clothes. I am showing the world that their is nothing wrong with my size and I am telling the vendors, "Do your thang". That to me is true support. Another way I support the vendors is by shopping and I know every diva has to enjoy shopping. Next I love the fact that their are vendors that care about real fashion and design. Not only do they work hard but, they take out alot of time to make sure that we have amazing clothes on the market that we are able to wear inside and outside the house. As far as supporting the industry every time we put on something that catches peoples eye's. That is supporting the industry to the fullest and feeling good about yourself in the process. So over all I'm supporting the industry, the vendors, the big girls and myself.
