As big gals our entire world revolves around plus size vendors and the industry.
For starters my clothes, for work, play, photoshoots.
Our shoes, the jewelry we wear.
Even when it comes to getting a haircut, I hate walking into a salon that has all of these pictures of haircuts on models that are a size 2.
How can I picture in my mind a new cut, when the model wearing the cut has a smaller face than me?
That is why if you go the salon near my house you will see a plus size girl modeling a haircutSmiler You will see me. I pointed out to the owner how not one of these people were plus size and I wanted to see something new that would look good for me and had no examples to choose from.
I love Figure, yes there is room for improvement, every magazine has room for improvement. Improvement is what every business wants.
We need more plus size magazines. I don't understand how difficult it can be for vendors to participate and help these magazines come to life. After all there are more plus size women, than straight size.
So who do you think is buying all of these clothes???????? Us the thicker chicks.
I don't want to tell you the outfits that I just got, just to go on a vacation.LOL

Valery this is a great topic!!!!!!!!

I think one of the biggest reasons is due to the fact that the magazines gets hardly any advertisment. How can you subscribe if you don't know it's out there?

I also think it's because the media has all this attention on diets and being thin. I know I'm beautiful, but when I go out I get depressed sometimes. Pick up any magazine and what do you see? Size two women in an outfit that looks amazing, how do you feel when you see it?

Another reason is what you see in stores. I just went shopping with my sister (whose a size two). We went to a store that has clothes for all sizes. I was happy, at first. I started to look at the clothes that were offered to her and I started to get mad. Why is it that plus clothes don't flatter? Most are either too big in the shoulders or too big at the bottom. It makes you not want to shop. I can't afford to spend money on clothes like Lane Bryant. That needs to change and I promise you that you would see more confident plus women out there.

Everybody seems to be talking down about plus size vendors and the industry. But who has looked at the brighter side of things? I can remember a few years back and not having but one "curvy" store to shop at, Lane Bryant. There are so many other outlets that do cater to us. We are not seeing the forest for the trees. The fashion industry has come quite a long way in accepting and taking steps towards plus size women. It's not where we all would want it to be, but they're working on it. Progress is a slow process, so we just have to wait it out.

My best friend is small and we go shopping quite a bit together. Sometimes seeing the clothes that she can wear and I can't, can get depressing. But then I think about how beautiful I am and go on to a store that does cater to me and my size and feel so much better for myself. You'll never be truly happy and learn to accept yourself until you stop seeing all of the bad in being "curvy". When I look in the mirror I don't see "fat or plus size," I see a very beautiful "curvy" women. And I embrace every part of that.
